Accessing the Student Management Area

To begin managing your students, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to the My Library section.
  2. Click on Assessments in the top navigation bar.
  3. Select Manage Students from the dropdown menu.

You will now be in the central hub for student management.

Key Features of Student Management

Within the Manage Students area, you'll find several powerful tools:

  • Organizing Students into Groups: Grouping your students helps you filter and analyze data for specific classes or reading groups. To create and manage groups, look for the group management options, usually located at the top left of your student list.
  • Viewing Student Profiles and Assessment History: Gaining insight into each student's reading journey is crucial. Click on a student's name to view their individual profile. Here, you'll find:
    • A summary of their overall performance.
    • A detailed history of all completed assessments.
    • Areas where they may be excelling or need extra support.
  • Renaming Student Profiles: Occasionally, students might accidentally create duplicate accounts or use variations of their names. To maintain data integrity, you can easily rename profiles to ensure each student is correctly identified. Simply select the 'Rename' option associated with the student's profile.
  • Merging Quizzes and Handling Duplicate Profiles: PicoBuddy is designed to automatically merge quizzes into a single profile if a student uses the same name again. However, if you encounter truly duplicate profiles (e.g., due to typos), you can manually merge them to consolidate all assessment data into one place.

Best Practices for Student Management

  • Regularly Review Student Profiles: Take some time each week to review student profiles. This will help you identify students who may be struggling or excelling, allowing you to tailor your instruction accordingly.
  • Utilize Grouping Strategically: Group students based on reading level, learning style, or specific areas of focus. This will enable you to target your lessons more effectively.
  • Communicate with Students: Share their progress and areas for improvement in a positive and encouraging manner. PicoBuddy's insights can be a powerful tool for motivating students to become better readers.

By effectively utilizing the student management features in PicoBuddy, you can gain valuable insights into your students' reading progress and tailor your instruction to meet their individual needs. The management tools are available on Pro and Classroom plans. Happy reading!
