Flicker the Fox and the Flowers
Flicker the fox loved to play in the meadow. He loved to chase butterflies and roll in the grass. But most of all, Flicker loved the flowers. They were bright and colorful, and they always smelled so sweet.
One day, Flicker had a very silly thought. "I wish I was a flower!" he said to himself. "Then I could stand in the sun all day and be beautiful."
So, Flicker tried to be a flower. He stood very still in the middle of the flower patch. He closed his eyes and tried to feel like a flower. The sun was warm on his fur. He stood very still.
Suddenly, he heard a giggle. Flicker opened his eyes. It was Bella, the bluebird. She was sitting on a flower, laughing. "What are you doing, Flicker?" she asked.
"I'm trying to be a flower," said Flicker.
Bella giggled again. "But you're a fox! Foxes chase and play. Flowers just stand still."
Flicker thought about that. He liked chasing butterflies and rolling in the grass. He didn't want to just stand still!
"You're right, Bella," Flicker said. "Being a flower isn't for me."
Flicker smiled. He knew he could not be a flower, but he could be friends with them. He ran around the meadow, wagging his tail. He was happy to be a fox, playing among the flowers. And the flowers were happy to have Flicker as a friend. He was a very good friend to the flowers.
