Washington's Tasty Seafood

Have you ever tasted the yummy seafood from Washington State? Washington is next to the Pacific Ocean. Because of this, it has lots of different fish and shellfish! Let's explore some of the delicious seafood you can find there.

Salmon

Salmon is a very popular fish in Washington. There are different kinds of salmon, like Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye. These fish are born in rivers but swim to the ocean to grow. Then, they swim back to the rivers to lay their eggs. People love to eat salmon grilled, smoked, or baked.

Shellfish

Washington is also famous for its shellfish. Shellfish are animals that live in shells. Some popular shellfish are:

  • Oysters: These are often eaten raw or cooked. They live in the salty water and are full of flavor.
  • Clams: You can find many kinds of clams, like geoduck clams, which are very big! Clams are used in soups and stews.
  • Crabs: Dungeness crab is a very famous crab from Washington. It has a sweet taste and is often served at special meals.

Other Fish

Besides salmon, there are other fish in Washington's waters. Halibut is a big flat fish that people like to eat. Also, there is cod, which is used in fish and chips.

Why is Washington Seafood so Good?

The waters of Washington are clean and cold. This helps the fish and shellfish grow big and taste great. Fishermen work hard to catch the seafood. They follow rules to make sure there will be enough fish for the future. Eating Washington seafood supports the local fishermen and keeps the oceans healthy. Next time you get a chance, try some Washington seafood!
