Tola and the Full Moon Fear
Tola the tiger was a brave tiger, most of the time. He loved to chase butterflies in the tall grass, splash in the muddy puddles after a rain, and even roar at his reflection in the watering hole. But Tola had a secret: he was terribly afraid of the full moon.
Every month, when the moon grew big and round and bright, Tola would hide. He’d burrow himself under the biggest bush he could find, close his eyes tight, and hum a little tune to try and block out the moonlight. He thought the moon was too bright, too big, and too…stare-y.
One night, during a particularly bright full moon, Tola was hiding as usual when he heard a small sniffle. He peeked out from under the bush and saw a little firefly, its light blinking weakly.
"What’s wrong, little firefly?" Tola whispered.
"I…I can’t shine as brightly as the moon," the firefly sobbed. "Everyone will think my light is too small and silly."
Tola crept out from under the bush. He looked up at the moon, big and bright, and then back at the firefly. An idea sparked in his mind.
"Little firefly," Tola said, "your light is special. It twinkles and dances. The moon is just…big. Come with me!"
Tola led the firefly to a dark corner of the jungle where the moonlight couldn’t reach. There, the firefly’s light twinkled like a tiny star. Tola watched, mesmerized.
"See?" Tola said. "Your light is perfect, just the way it is."
The firefly smiled, its light shining a little brighter. "Thank you, Tola," it said.
Tola realized something that night. The moon might be big and bright, but it didn't make the firefly's light any less special. And his own fear of the moon didn't make him any less brave. From that night on, Tola still felt a little nervous when the full moon appeared, but he wasn’t quite so afraid. He knew that even in the brightest light, there was still room for everyone to shine.
