The Case of the Missing Mascot
The Northwood Elementary Eagles were ready for the championship game. But there was one big problem: Edgar, their beloved eagle mascot, was missing! Maya, known for her sharp mind, and David, a master of observation, decided to investigate.
"He was right here after practice yesterday," said Coach Thompson, pointing to the storage room. "The door was locked, as always."
Maya examined the door. "No forced entry," she noted. David, meanwhile, was scanning the floor. "Look! Eagle feathers near the window. And the window is slightly ajar."
The Investigation Begins
Their first clue led them to the school cafeteria. Edgar was a big fan of Mrs. Peterson’s famous berry pie. They found crumbs that looked suspiciously like berry pie outside the back door. A set of small, muddy footprints trailed away from the door.
"The footprints are too small to be Coach Thompson’s," David observed. "And Edgar can't walk by himself!"
The trail led them to the art room. Miss Evans was painting a large banner for the game. "I haven't seen Edgar," she said, looking surprised. But Maya noticed a small smear of green paint on Miss Evans' smock. It was the exact shade of green used for Edgar's beak.
Unmasking the Culprit
David pointed to a newly painted sign. "That sign wasn’t there yesterday!" Miss Evans nervously explained that she wanted to give the team a surprise. nAs they looked closer at the paint can, Maya noticed something hidden behind the can, "Look!" Maya exclaimed, pulling out a crumpled up note that looked to be in Miss Evan's handwriting. It read "If the mascot is missing, the other team will be too worried to play!"
Finally, Maya and David raced towards the gymnasium, and sure enough, they found the real Edgar tied up. "We know you are behind all of this Miss Evans." said David. Miss Evans looked ashamed as she confessed to the crime. She untied Edgar and apologized for her misguided attempt to help the team win. The mascot was saved just in time for the big game.
