Selfie Through Time: The Day I Walked with Mammoths

It started like any other day. My grandpa, a retired scientist, was tinkering with his latest invention in the basement. He called it the "Chrono-Mobile 1.0" - a time machine built from spare parts and a lot of wishful thinking. I usually ignored his gadgets, but today curiosity got the better of me.

"Grandpa, what does it do?" I asked, pointing to the blinking lights and whirring gears.

He grinned. "It sends you back in time, Lily! Imagine seeing dinosaurs or ancient civilizations!"

I laughed, but Grandpa was always serious about his inventions. Before I could ask more, I tripped, bumping into the machine. There was a flash, a loud BANG, and then... nothing.

When I opened my eyes, snow was falling. A lot of snow. I was standing in a vast, frozen field, and I was FREEZING! My phone, thankfully, was still in my pocket. As I took it out, my eyes widened in disbelief. A giant, furry creature with long, curved tusks was lumbering towards me. A mammoth!

It was enormous, easily twice the size of a car. I was terrified, but also... amazed. I quickly snapped a photo, then another, trying to keep my hands from shaking. The mammoth, surprisingly, didn't seem bothered by me. It just munched on some icy grass.

I took a selfie, giving a peace sign with one hand while trying to keep my teeth from chattering. "Selfie with a mammoth!" I whispered into my phone, uploading it to my private cloud storage. My friends would never believe this!

More mammoths appeared, a whole family of them. They were magnificent, powerful, and clearly in charge of this icy world. I watched them for what felt like hours, feeling like an intruder in their ancient home. I even saw some early humans in fur clothes observing them from a distance.

Suddenly, another flash! I was back in Grandpa's basement, the Chrono-Mobile sputtering to a halt. Grandpa looked relieved.

"Lily! You're back! Are you okay?" he exclaimed.

I nodded, still in shock. "Grandpa, I saw mammoths! I took a selfie with one!"

He looked skeptical until I showed him the photo on my phone. His eyes widened. "Incredible! It worked! You really traveled through time!"

That day, I learned two things: Grandpa's inventions were actually real, and a selfie with a mammoth is the coolest thing ever.
