Lily's Olympic Dream

The crisp winter air nipped at Lily's cheeks as she walked with her mom and dad toward the stadium. Today was the day! The Winter Olympics figure skating competition! Lily had dreamed of this moment for years, ever since she first saw a figure skater twirl across the ice on TV.

Inside, the stadium buzzed with excitement. Flags from different countries waved, and the announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers. Lily clutched her stuffed penguin, Pengu, and followed her parents to their seats. The skaters were amazing, leaping and spinning with grace and power. Lily watched, mesmerized.

During intermission, Lily told her parents she needed to use the restroom. “Be right back!” she called, heading off through the crowded concourse. But instead of going to the restroom, Lily's feet carried her toward a different sound – the scraping of skates on ice. She followed the sound, her heart pounding with each step.

She peeked through a doorway and gasped. It was the practice rink! Skaters zoomed across the ice, practicing their routines. Lily couldn't resist. She slipped through the door and onto the ice. Whoosh! It was even colder here, and much more slippery than she had imagined.

Lily took a tentative step, then another. She wobbled, waving her arms for balance. She tried to glide like the skaters she had seen, but instead, her feet flew out from under her. Thump! She landed on the ice with a giggle. It was slippery, but it was also fun!

Meanwhile, Lily's parents were starting to worry. She had been gone a long time. “Maybe she got lost,” her mom said, her voice filled with concern. They searched the restrooms, the food stands, everywhere they could think of. Panic began to set in.

Suddenly, they heard an announcement. “Attention, please. Will Lily, wearing a blue jacket and carrying a penguin, please come to the main office?” Lily’s dad breathed a sigh of relief. They rushed to the office, ready to scold her. But when they arrived, they saw something that made them smile.

There, on the large screen in the office, was Lily. She was on the practice rink ice, being helped up by one of the Olympic skaters! The skater smiled and waved at the camera. Lily waved back, her face beaming. She might have fallen, but she had also touched the ice of the Olympics, just like she dreamed.
