Life in a Castle
Long ago, kings and queens lived in big, strong houses called castles. Castles were built to keep them safe. Let's learn about what it was like to live in a castle!
The King and Queen
The king was the boss of the castle. He made the rules. The queen was his wife, and she helped him. They lived in the nicest rooms. They had big chairs and soft beds. They would have big feasts in the great hall.
The Moat and Drawbridge
Many castles had a moat. A moat is a big ditch full of water around the castle. This made it hard for enemies to get close. To get into the castle, you had to cross a drawbridge. The drawbridge could be pulled up. Then, no one could get in!
Food in the Castle
People in castles ate many things. They ate meat, like chicken and beef. They also ate bread and vegetables. Sometimes, they had fruit. But they did not have pizza or ice cream like we do today! They drank water, ale, and wine. Food was often cooked over an open fire in a big kitchen.
Life in a castle was different a long time ago. It was safe, but it was not always easy. Still, it was home to the king, the queen, and many other people, too!
