Florida's Amazing Farms
Have you ever wondered where your food comes from? In Florida, farmers grow all sorts of tasty things! From juicy oranges to sweet strawberries, Florida farms are very busy.
Sunshine and Soil
Florida's warm sunshine and rich soil help plants grow big and strong. Farmers need to take good care of the soil by adding nutrients. Nutrients are like vitamins for plants! Some farmers use special machines to check the soil and make sure it has everything plants need. The Florida sunshine helps make all of the fruit especially delicious!
Orange Groves
Florida is famous for its oranges. Big fields of orange trees, called groves, cover much of the land. Workers pick the oranges by hand or with special tools. Then, the oranges are washed, sorted, and sent to stores all over the country. Did you know that one orange tree can grow hundreds of oranges each year?
Strawberry Fields
In the winter, Florida strawberry fields turn bright red. Farmers carefully plant strawberry plants in rows. They protect the plants from cold weather. Florida strawberries are so yummy that people come from far away to pick them. The mild winter climate gives the plants the right balance of warmth and coolness to develop delicious, sweet berries.
Other Florida Farms
Besides oranges and strawberries, Florida farmers grow many other things. You can find fields of tomatoes, watermelons, and even sugar cane. Some farmers raise cows and chickens. All these farms help feed Florida and the rest of the country.
