A Day by the River

June 12th

Dear Diary,

Today was absolutely perfect! I woke up to the sun shining so bright, it made the Colorado River sparkle like a million tiny diamonds. Mom packed us a picnic, and Dad promised we could go rafting. I could hardly wait!

We drove to a spot near Glenwood Springs. The air smelled so fresh, like pine trees and river water mixed together. Before we even got the raft in the water, I spotted a bald eagle soaring above. It was HUGE! Dad said they often fish in the river. That's so cool!

Rafting Adventure

Getting into the raft was a little scary at first. The water was cold! But once we started paddling, it was so much fun. We went through some small rapids, and Mom screamed a little. But it was the good kind of scream, the kind that means you're having a blast.

I saw some kids fishing from the shore. Dad told me that the Colorado River is home to many different kinds of fish, like trout and catfish. I even saw a beaver swimming along the side of the river! It was carrying a branch in its mouth, probably building a dam. So cool!

Picnic Time!

After rafting, we found a nice spot under a big cottonwood tree for our picnic. We had sandwiches, chips, and my favorite: watermelon! While we ate, we watched some kayakers paddling by. They looked like they were having just as much fun as we were.

As the sun started to set, the sky turned all sorts of amazing colors – pink, orange, and purple. The river reflected all those colors, making it look like a painting. Dad pointed out the silhouette of the mountains against the sky. It was absolutely breathtaking.

A Perfect Day

I’m so lucky to live so close to the Colorado River. It’s not just a river; it’s a place for adventure, for seeing amazing wildlife, and for making memories with my family. Today was a reminder of how special this place is.

Goodnight, Diary.
