Alaska's Arctic Animals
Alaska's Arctic is a cold and amazing place. Many animals live there. They have special ways to stay alive in the freezing temperatures.
Arctic Fox
The Arctic fox is a small, furry animal. It has thick fur that changes color. In the winter, its fur is white to blend in with the snow. This helps it hide from enemies and sneak up on food. In the summer, its fur turns brown or gray. The Arctic fox eats small animals like mice and birds. It can even survive by eating berries.
Polar Bear
The polar bear is a big, strong bear. It lives on the ice and hunts seals. Polar bears have thick fur and a layer of fat to keep them warm. They are excellent swimmers. Sadly, the polar bear is in danger because the ice is melting. This makes it harder for them to find food.
Caribou
Caribou are like reindeer. They travel in large groups called herds. They have thick fur and big hooves that help them walk on the snow. Caribou eat plants like grass and moss. They move around a lot to find food.
Arctic Wolf
Arctic wolves look like regular wolves but are usually white or light-colored. They live in families called packs. They hunt together to catch animals like caribou and musk oxen. Arctic wolves are very strong and can survive in the coldest places.
Snowy Owl
The Snowy Owl is a beautiful white bird. It hunts during the day and night. It eats small animals like mice and voles. Snowy Owls have thick feathers to keep them warm. They can fly very quietly so their prey does not hear them coming.
These are just a few of the amazing animals that live in Alaska's Arctic. They are all special and important. We need to help protect them and their home.
