A Trolley Ride Through San Francisco

Lily loved visiting her grandma in San Francisco. More than anything, she loved the trolley car rides. San Francisco wasn't like her town at all. Instead of flat streets, San Francisco had big hills! Her grandma lived in a yellow house, like a block of butter. It stood halfway up a hill. From her bedroom window, Lily could see the Golden Gate Bridge far in the distance. It looked like a giant red gate.

Up, Up, Up!

Every morning, Lily and her grandma would walk to the trolley stop. Clang, clang, clang! The trolley was coming. It was bright orange, and Lily always tried to sit near the front. The trolley would start, and Lily would hold on tight. Up, up, up the hill they would go! Sometimes, it felt like they were on a roller coaster.

"This city is so special, Lily," her grandma would say. "Not every city has trolleys that climb hills!"

That Red Bridge

One day, Lily asked, "Grandma, can we go see the red bridge up close?"

Her grandma smiled. "Of course, Lily. We can take the trolley most of the way!"

So, the next day, they rode the trolley even farther than usual. They went past shops and restaurants, and even more hills! Finally, they got off the trolley and walked a little ways. And then, there it was: the Golden Gate Bridge. It was even bigger up close! Cars zoomed across it like tiny ants. Lily was amazed.

"Wow," Lily said. "It's even more beautiful than I imagined."

Her grandma squeezed her hand. "San Francisco is full of surprises, Lily. I'm glad I get to share them with you."

As they rode the trolley back home, Lily looked out the window. She saw the hills, the houses, and the sparkling water. She knew she would always remember her trolley ride to the Golden Gate Bridge.
